Please note that this is a 6 hour course that takes place over 2 days. Part 1 is Jan 27, and Part 2 is Feb 3. Both sessions run from 10am-1pm. There is no oppourtunity to re-schedule or for a partial refund if a student cannot attend both sessions.

Cost tracking, job tracking, production rates, schedules, estimates:    If you would like to create spreadsheets to make this work easy and consistent, then this course is for you.   Learn to create spreadsheets for cost tracking, calculating production rates and creating estimates.  We will show you how to create spreadsheets that can be used by co-workers and that are robust and secure.

Is running or analyzing a business or individual jobs important for you?  We will demonstrate tools to help you better calculate your business metrics, profitability of jobs, plan budgets and examine business scenarios all through the use of Microsoft Excel.  This advanced level course will give you a better comprehension of how to analyze data to create what-if scenarios (what if conditions changes…. how will these affect  the cost of the job).

Format: Six (6) hours of live online instructor-led instruction over 2 days.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Capture and link data from different files, track changes and create simple macros
  • Understand file security
  • Learn how to use Excel with other programs to quickly and easily make presentation materials from spreadsheets containing estimates and schedules.
  • Understand how to consolidate data from disparate reports, master the ability to create, analyze and compare budget scenarios electronically
  • Manipulate and analyze databases via pivot tables and to create management analysis reports
  • Learn how to create simple Gantt charts and timelines in Excel 

AUDIENCE:

The course is designed for anyone in the construction industry who works with numerical data.  Microsoft Excel is an essential tool to learn for anyone tracking data.

This course is delivered in partnership between your local construction association and other associations throughout Western Canada. You’ll be participating in a cohort with industry peers from across these regions

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Computer or laptop
    • This course will involve on-screen interaction with your instructor and classmates, reading/viewing on-screen content (slides or videos), and interacting via typing with questions or responses. For this reason, cell-phones or tablets will not be adequate.
    • As this is a hands-on webinar, participants should have Microsoft Excel load on a computer.  
    • If possible, students should have two (2) Monitors available – one for their Microsoft Excel work and one for the instructor’s screen.
  1. Webcam – in order to engage and collaborate, participants will be expected to have their webcams on for the duration of the class
  2. Microphone
  3. Internet connection
  4. A quiet space with minimal distractions - microphone will be engaged for interactive sessions. Please plan to be fully engaged in the class, and clear your work schedule just as you would for the in-class program.  
  5. Comfortable chair 

INSTRUCTORS:

Anne Leroux, P.Eng. is a founding partner of ES Computer Training and Technologies, ESCTT Inc. A graduate of the University of Waterloo, Anne is a professional engineer with over 25 years experience in construction, engineering and project management.  Anne possesses prolific experience in the field and as a consultant. She has been responsible for the development and implementation of numerous software programs used in the construction and architectural industries.   Established in 1992, ESCTT Inc. provides computer infrastructure services to businesses in various industry verticals. Products/ventures have included risk management software for construction, business intelligence software, thin client data systems and distributed workforce software.

Greg Leroux has been a leading financial strategist, consultant and instructor to the construction industry since 2008, Greg Leroux has become an authority on getting construction firms to maximize their productivity through the use of information technology.  Greg is not only an expert with standard construction software, but has been a key developer of the Risk Managment application - RiskMP.  Greg has worked closely with construction companies throughout Canada, lending his practical, results-driven approach to ensure success.

CREDITS:

This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for one (1) credit towards Gold Seal certification for in-class attendance.

AIBC Education Provider

This course has been approved by Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) for six (6) non-core units towards AIBC’s Continuing Education System

Cancellation & Substitution Policy: Payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within 7 business days of the course, or non-attendance on the day. Transfer to another date is not accepted. Complimentary substitution of another member of your company is accepted. 

If VRCA has to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, VRCA will refund the registration fee or, if possible, the attendee may choose to move to an identical session in the future.
