Please note: VRCA’s Infrastructure Series is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month, 3.30-5.00 p.m., and will be offered on a complimentary basis while the ban on mass gatherings is in place.

VRCA is partnering with University of British Columbia Infrastructure Development to present the next event in its member-exclusive Infrastructure Series, designed specifically to provide large procurers of construction with an opportunity to share details of their capital and maintenance programs, upcoming projects and how to access the bidding opportunities.

Ranked as one of Canada’s leading research universities, UBC’s Vancouver campus is located on 994 acres on the western tip of the Point Grey Peninsula. The campus features 19 million square feet of academic floor space, houses nearly 12,000 student residents and has a daytime population of more than 75,000 people.

The UBC Infrastructure Development, Project Services capital program includes more than 100 projects each year with an overall project value of $100 million annually. Projects range from renovations and modernizations to full building renewals, and includes energy projects, major utility infrastructure upgrades and large deferred maintenance projects across a diverse portfolio of more than 300 buildings.

UPDATE: While UBC Infrastructure Development will present details about UBC’s small to medium-sized projects, UBC Properties Trust (UBCPT) will also attend to provide information about UBC’s large capital projects.

UBCPT acts as the developer and owners project manager for the major capital projects at both the Vancouver and Kelowna campuses, as well as other affiliated sites such as Robson Square. Projects typically with a construction value exceeding $5 Million will be managed by UBCPT on behalf of the university.

For the last 30 years, UBCPT has completed some of the most significant facilities on both campuses, starting with the Life Sciences building in 2002. Other millstone facilities include the new Aquatic Centre, Brock Commons Tall Wood Residence (The tallest mass timber building in the world at time of occupancy), and the VRCA platinum winning Student Union Building, now known as The Nest.

UBCPT also oversees the development of the faculty & staff housing and other rental neighborhoods including Wesbrook Village and the future Stadium Neighborhood. Other Market assets include the Focal and Central building on University Boulevard, which lease space to campus favorites like JJ Bean Coffee Roasters, Uncle Fatih’s Pizza & Rain or Shine Ice Cream
