Please note that this is a 7-hour course that takes place over 2 days, August 13-14.  Both sessions run from 11:30am - 3:30pm. There is no opportunity to re-schedule or request for a partial refund if a student cannot attend both sessions.

Ethical behaviour is essential for the construction industry. By maintaining high ethical standards, and by being consistent in our practices, we thrive both personally and professionally. The Construction Industry Ethics course is designed to help you and your team think through the ethical decisions you face every day. 

Note: Please note that there is a Prereqisite for this workshop. You must register for and complete the Construction Industry Ethics online course prior to enrolling in the classroom course.

Format: Seven hours of live online instructor-led instruation over two consecutive days. 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Connect personal experiences to the core principles of ethical behaviour
  • Explore how to be socially responsible, how to acquire social license, and learn the value of social responsibility
  • Conduct a risk assessment and analyze its components
  • Make decisions using an ethical framework
  • Evaluate decisions from an ethical point of view
  • Communicate about ethics with your team and external company contacts
  • Identify unethical behavior and take appropriate action

AUDIENCE:

Construction Owners, Managers, Estimators, Supervisors, CSOs and Staff.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  1. Computer or laptop
    • This course will involve on-screen interaction with your instructor and classmates, reading/viewing on-screen content (slides or videos), and interacting via typing with questions or responses. For this reason, cell-phones or tablets will not be adequate.

  2. Webcam – in order to engage and collaborate, participants will be expected to have their webcams on for the duration of the class
  3. Microphone
  4. Internet connection - For best results, you’ll want to ensure you have an internet connection with an upload/download speed of 3-5 Mbps. You can test your internet speed here. Minimum recommended speed is 1.5 Mbps, but anything below 3 Mbps may result in loss of quality or buffering. Ideally hardwired connection versus wireless for stability - connect your computer directly to your router using an ethernet cable, rather than using your home wi-fi.
  5. A quiet space with minimal distractions - microphone will be engaged for interactive sessions. Please plan to be fully engaged in the class, and clear your work schedule just as you would for the in-class program.  
  6. Comfortable chair 

This course is delivered in partnership between your local construction association and other associations throughout Western Canada. You’ll be participating in a cohort with industry peers from across these regions

INSTRUCTOR:

Debbie Hicks, B.Sc. DSH Consulting, Kelowna, BC. With a comprehensive education background (Diploma in Business Administration, Bachelors of Science, teaching credential, and in progress MBA) learning has been at the core of her career.   As former President of the Southern Interior Construction Association in BC for 22 years, liaising with the buyers of construction services, architects, engineers and contractors in advocacy and education brings a solid base to her expertise.  In addition, her experience as the owner Rep for the construction of the new Clubhouse for the Kelowna Yacht Club has provided additional perspective. Through these experiences and teaching techniques, Debbie is able to bring both knowledge and interaction to the classroom – an ideal education environment.

CREDITS:

This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for 2 credits towards Gold Seal certification for in-class attendance.

Cancellation & Substitution Policy: Payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within 7 business days of the course, or non-attendance on the day. Transfer to another date is not accepted. Complimentary substitution of another member of your company is accepted. 

If VRCA has to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, VRCA will refund the registration fee or, if possible, the attendee may choose to move to an identical session in the future.
