Please note: VRCA’s Infrastructure Series is held on the fourth Wednesday of every month, 3.30-5.00 p.m., and will be offered on a complimentary basis while the ban on mass gatherings is in place.

VRCA is partnering with the City of Coquitlam to present the next event in its member-exclusive Infrastructure Series, designed specifically to provide large procurers of construction with an opportunity to share details of their capital and maintenance programs, upcoming projects and how to access the bidding opportunities.

The City of Coquitlam is a progressive and rapidly growing community of 150,000 residents.  The completion of the Evergreen Extension SkyTrain in 2017 has sparked a new wave of high-density, transit-oriented infill development in the Burquitlam-Lougheed and City Centre areas, and new mountainside neighbourhoods are emerging on Burke Mountain in the northeast part of the City.  This growth, along with prudent financial management has facilitated a significant program of capital investments in recreation, cultural and public facilities that will benefit Coquitlam’s residents and provide opportunities for the regional construction industry.

Major public facilities under construction or in the procurement, design and planning phases include:

  • the Coquitlam YMCA, a partnership between the City, the YMCA and Concert Properties;
  • the replacement and expansion of the Place Maillardville Community Centre;
  • the expansion of the City Centre Aquatic Centre;
  • a new community centre on Burke Mountain; and
  • the phased renewal of the Austin Works Yard, the Burke Mountain Discovery Centre, along with new parks and plazas across the city.

The City’s transportation system is also being improved to support growth and development, with major new connections along with an emphasis on active transportation facilities and greenways.

Coquitlam is a business-friendly city that values high-quality development, offering a supportive environment for the full range of participants in the construction industry.
