This micro-credential introduces participants to the construction trades sector, focusing on the essential principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Participants will learn to value the varied backgrounds and perspectives that team members bring to the job site and develop skills to identify and mitigate biases that can affect team performance. Through self-reflection and the examination of real-world examples and EDI initiatives, participants will gain the tools necessary to lead by example and cultivate a culture of belonging and allyship. This course combines face-to-face and online learning in a blended model.
Schedule:
This course is delivered in a blended format. It is 10 weeks and 30 hours in total. Each week includes a Scheduled class (1 hour) and a Flexible (Self-Paced) session (2 hours).
2. Online with Scheduled Classes: Each week has a scheduled class for 1 hour on a set date and time. This scheduled (synchronous) class is delivered Online via Zoom, and it is instructor-led. The first scheduled class in on Febryary 2 . Class times are Tuesdays from 6 – 7 p.m.
3. Flexible (Self-Paced): Each week also has a self-paced session which is 2 hours. Learners complete this on their own time within that week; before the scheduled class. The self-paced (asynchronous) content is delivered by the online learning management system Moodle. The self-paced content is available starting Monday September 16.
4. It is crucial to complete each self-paced module before the corresponding scheduled class to fully benefit from the live discussions and activities. Scheduled classes will not be recorded to encourage active participation and protect the privacy of participants.

Grant Davis is an Electrical Safety Officer for a local municipality with a Master’s in Education. With extensive teaching experience at KPU, BCIT, and the EJTC, he is dedicated to fostering an inclusive learning environment, prioritizing safety, and leading diverse teams. A lifelong learner, Grant integrates ethics and empowerment into his teaching.
