CLASSROOM: Electrical Blueprint Reading

Participants will learn how to read a set of electrical construction blueprints, drawing specifications and general notes. Using various samples of electrical blueprints, participants will gain experience and practical knowledge for their day-to-day work on construction projects.

Format: One day (8 hours) of in-class instruction

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Have an elementary knowledge of electrical blueprint reading as it relates to construction projects
  • Understand in general terms the design process and the role of design professionals
  • Understand how Building Codes and Bylaws impact blueprints
  • Understand specifications and the contractual hierarchy
  • Be able to find trade information using blueprints
  • Be able to answer basic construction questions related to the layout and installation of materials
  • Be able to identify elementary problems or short comings of the blueprints you are using
  • Be familiar with electrical, architectural and structural drawings, and how they fit together
  • Understand and be able to use architectural & metric scale rulesHave a basic knowledge of blueprint reading as it relates to building construction projects
  • Understand how to convert metric dimensions to architectural (imperial) dimensions
  • Understand how to read a floor plan, section, detail, profile and elevation
  • Understand symbols, notations, abbreviations and material schedules
  • Be able to work with the drawings to obtain basic information on dimensions, finishes, details, area calculations, and the ability to do simple
    material takeoffs

AUDIENCE:

Ideal for those who have little or no background in electrical blueprint reading.

INSTRUCTOR:

Troy Henderson is the Chief Estimator for a prominent electrical contractor and is a BC Master Electrician FSR Class A. Troy has been in the electrical industry since the early 1980’s. He has worked on some of the largest electrical projects in BC. In 1999 he moved into the role as an Estimating/Project Manager. He has successfully landed many jobs of all sizes and has a passion to train a new generation of Estimators in ethically securing business for their companies.

CREDITS:

This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for one (1) credit towards Gold Seal certification for in-class attendance.

 

This course has been approved by BC Housing Licensing and Consumer Services (formerly Homeowners Protection Office) for seven and a half (7.5) points towards Continued  Professional Development (CPD) for in-class attendance.

 AIBC Education Provider

This course has been approved by Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) for seven (7) core units towards AIBC’s Continuing Education System

Fee Includes: Student manual, digital certificate upon completion, complimentary Wi-Fi access, lunch and free parking.

Cancellation & Substitution Policy: Payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within 7 business days of the course, or non-attendance on the day. Complimentary substitution of another member of your company is accepted. 

If VRCA has to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, VRCA will refund the registration fee or, if possible, the attendee may choose to move to an identical session in the future.
