Workshop for a Cause - Introduction to Lean and the Last Planner System (LPS)

This is a full-day session that will take place on May 15, from 9-3:30pm (lunch break included).

This workshop is designed around several hands-on simulations (or games) that introduce the key principles of lean and the Last Planner System®. This workshop will give you powerful ways to implement and communicate the concepts within your organization and on your projects. This workshop will help you understand the key concepts through experience.

It will provide insights to lean principles, lean implementation and will provide validated solutions for overcoming common implementation challenges. . This workshop consists of short videos, interactive activities, quizzes, live discussions with the facilitator(s) and supplemental resources.

Workshop Outline:

  1. Understanding the lean principles through hands-on games and simulations – Value, Value Stream, Flow, Pull and Continuous Improvement - 3 hours.
  2. Detailed review of Last Planner System (LPS) - what is it? How does it work? – 2 hours
  3. Discussing LPS Lessons learned, dealing with resistance and implementation challenges – 1 hours.

Workshop accreditation: 1 CCA Gold Seal credit - “Course hours can be used towards the Gold Seal Certification application for credits, subject to credit approval upon review

Workshop for a Cause: As a tribute to Ritu's mother in Heaven, portions of the money raised through this ‘Workshop for a Cause’ will be contributed towards the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society® (LLS) is a global leader in the fight against blood cancer. The LLS mission: Cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world, provides free information and support services, and is the voice for all blood cancer patients seeking access to quality, affordable, coordinated care

FORMAT: 

  • Live, Instructor-led training, with a class size of up to 30 students.
  • Attendance and participation is mandatory for course completion. *Please note that If a student misses a class session, we are unable to transfer registration or provide a partial refund of the registration fees.

AUDIENCE: All members from built environment, including Architects, Designers Consultants, Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Site Superintendents, and Management. 

INSTRUCTOR: 

Ritu Ahuja, Lean Integration Leader, Kinetic Construction Ltd.

With over 15 years of experience, Ritu is playing a leadership role in advancing knowledge and awareness about lean design and construction within the industry. She holds a Ph.D. in Built Environment and was also the recipient of the VRCA 2022 Education Leadership Award.

As part of her current role, she is a coach, a mentor, and a leader, leading lean initiatives for Kinetic Construction Ltd. (Kinetic). She continues to be a part of various panel discussions on lean and sits on the advisory committees working towards advancing lean in the industry. She has coached various project teams to understand the real meaning of the lean project delivery and lean construction as applicable. As part of the coaching, Ritu successfully continues to disseminate her teachings through adequate trainings not only to Kinetic staff, but also, to trade partner representatives on various projects. Ritu’s work in lean construction has been acknowledged internationally through journal publications, book chapters, and various conference presentations.

Ritu is a Lean Construction Institute (LCI) and Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) certified lean education instructor. She is one of the founding board members of the Lean Design and Construction Canada (LDCC) and is also one of the core team members of the Vancouver and Vancouver Island Lean Community of Practice (Lean CoP).

Ritu was also awarded the 40 Under 40 Award in 2021 by On-Site magazine for her contributions to the existing knowledge of lean construction in the AEC industry.

CREDITS:

This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for two (2) credits towards Gold Seal certification 

Upon successful completion of the course, you would be eligible for six (6) Informal CPD points with BC Housing - Licensing and Consumer Services.

Cancellation & Substitution Policy: Payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within 7 business days of the course, or non-attendance on the day. Transfer to another date is not accepted. Complimentary substitution of another member of your company is accepted.  

If VRCA has to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, VRCA will refund the registration fee or, if possible, the attendee may choose to move to an identical session in the future.
