EDUCATION CALENDAR

Please note that this is a 16-hour course that takes place over 4 days. All sessions run from 8:30-12:30pm each day. There is no opportunity to re-schedule or request for a partial refund if a student cannot attend all sessions. All sessions must be attended to receive a course certificate. 

Registered students will receive login information from the instructor in advance of the class. 

Participants will acquire knowledge how to prepare a successful bid and learn construction estimating skills. Course topics will include project analysis, risk analysis, bid strategies and processes, Construction Division Codes, bonding and insurance.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Analyze projects and decide on which ones to bid
• Understand risk analysis and how to price this into a bid
• Formulate a bid strategy, understand how to present a bid, and the post bidding process
• Understand how to prepare an estimate and the estimating process
• Use Construction Division Codes
• Be familiar with how to use the bid depository
• Understand the requirements for bonding and insurance

Course Format & Location Information

• Live, Online, Instructor-led training, with a maximum class size of 20 students. 
• This course is facilitated by the instructor on the Zoom platform. Access information from the instructor will be provided to you in advance of the training.
• Four (4) morning sessions (4 hours each) over four days:
  • Day 1: 8:30am-12:30pm
  • Day 2: 8:30am-12:30pm
  • Day 3: 8:30am-12:30pm
  • Day 4: 8:30am-12:30pm
  • Attendance in all sessions is mandatory for course completion. *Please note that If a student misses a class session, we are unable to transfer registration or provide a partial refund of the registration fees.

Course Requirements (Technology & Participation)

This course requires full face-to-face interaction and participation from both the instructor and students. In order to attend, you must make sure you have the following:

1. Computer or laptop with webcam (webcams are mandatory): This course will involve 100% on-screen interaction with your instructor and classmates, reading/viewing on-screen content like slides or videos, and interacting via typing with questions or responses. For this reason, you must have a webcam and use a full computer/laptop, and we do not permit students to attend using a tablet or cell phone.
2. A quiet space with minimal distractions: Please plan to be fully engaged in the class, and clear your work schedule just as you would for attendance in an in-class program.

This course is offered in partnership with construction associations across Canada and you'll be participating with a cohort with peers from throughout the country.

AUDIENCE:

This course is designed for construction estimators and those with experience in construction that desire to be estimators or improve their knowledge of estimating. 

INSTRUCTORS:

Mark Waters, CTech., GSC, is the Director of Training for ConstructionU. His career in the construction industry spans the past thirty years with experience and a unique perspective from both the general contracting and consulting engineering sides of the business. Mark is a Gold Seal Certified project manager and served many years in the industry as a senior project manager and estimator. His earlier career was field based, providing years of valuable experience as a project superintendent, general superintendent of field operations and surveying. Graduating with honours from the BCIT Geomatics Technicians program, Mark joined the Applied Science Technologists and Technicians Association of BC in 1997.

Tim Williams, MBA, B.Econ., CPA, GSC, is the President of ConstructionU, a company that provides training services tailor made for the construction industry. Tim has worked with numerous construction companies for over twenty years. He is a Gold Seal Certified project manager. He is an experienced and sought after trainer who has trained construction owners and managers on behalf of construction industry associations across Western Canada.

CREDITS:

This course has been accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for 5 credits towards Gold Seal certification.

Upon successful completion of the classroom you would be eligible for fifteen (15) Informal CPD points with BC Housing - Licensing and Consumer Services.

 

This course has been approved by Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) for fifteen (15) core units towards AIBC’s Continuing Education System

Fee Includes: Digital certificate upon completion.

Cancellation & Substitution Policy: Payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within 7 business days of the course, or non-attendance on the day. Transfer to another date is not accepted. Complimentary substitution of another member of your company is accepted. 

If VRCA has to postpone or cancel courses due to insufficient enrolment, VRCA will refund the registration fee or, if possible, the attendee may choose to move to an identical session in the future.
