This course will provide the participants with a detailed overview of the various forms created by the Canadian Construction Association and the Canadian Construction Documents Committee for use by the industry to assist in forming construction contracts.
This course will cover the most employed contract forms including: CCDC 1, CCDC 9a & b, CCDC 2, CCDC 11, CCDC 3, CCDC 14, CCDC 4, CCDC 30, CCDC 5a & b, CCA 1
Learning Outcomes
Differentiate the Contract and the Contract Documents2. Differentiate primary and secondary rights and obligations created by using standard CCA/CCDC forms3. List and discuss the legal requirements of an assignment of rights and obligations4. List and differentiate the three main structural components of most standard CCA/CCDC contract forms5. Recognise the common CCA/CCDC contract forms by name and number6. Define the parties to the contracts by name and role7. Differentiate the six/seven common construction contract types created by the CCDC documents8. Discuss the primary differences in risk that each type of contract places on each party to it9. Differentiate between the prime contract and subordinate contracts 10. Discuss how standard subcontract forms can help to create clear project hierarchy and help contractors meet the terms and conditions set out in the prime contract

This course is delivered in partnership between your local construction association and other associations throughout Western Canada. You’ll be participating in a cohort with industry peers from across these regions.
INSTRUCTOR:
Ralph Lembcke, P.GSC
Ralph’s construction career has taken him from estimator to project manager, then to self-employed contractor, and finally to a 30-year career as a professor with the Donald J. Smith School of Building Technology at Fanshawe College in London, ON, where he still teaches part-time. He was a 25-year member of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyor (PQS - Professional Quantity Surveyor) and is currently a charter member of the Construction and Design Educators Council of Canada (CDECC). Ralph sits on the board of advisors for the CDECC as well as for an Ontario-based construction company. Ralph holds a certificate in Construction Engineering Technology and Management from Fanshawe College, a teaching certificate from St. Clair College and a Professional Gold Seal certification from the Canadian Construction Association.
Course hours can be used towards the Gold Seal certification application. Note: every 6 hours of learning receives 1 Gold Seal credit for in-class attendance.
Upon successful completion of the classroom you would be eligible for fifteen (15) Informal CPD points with BC Housing - Licensing and Consumer Services.
This course has been approved by Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC) for sixteen (16) core units towards AIBC’s Continuing Education System
